This position leads the activities of the Facilities Operations unit of Facilities Management, which involves Building Maintenance Operations to ensure existing facilities are operating effectively, and that Facilities Operations is maintaining a safe, functional, clean, efficient and attractive living and learning environment, in support of the university’s educational, service, and research mission.
The Assistant Director manages, directly or indirectly, four teams of trades staff, organized into zones, charged with carrying out planned and emergency maintenance on existing buildings and facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plastering/painting, HVAC and signage activities.
The position participates in the development and update of capital renewal and preventative maintenance programs, to ensure appropriate long range planning. The A.D. and his staff participates in and provides technical reviews for project design. They participate in all building commissioning activities. The A.D. supports budget planning and monitors budget performance to ensure operations remain cost effective.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in training and/or experience required. Preferably a degree in Engineering or Architecture or a Master's degree in a management/business discipline.
7 - 10 years large-facility maintenance experience at a management level
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems
Skilled in using computer technology to maximize service and performance
Excellent oral and written communications skill
Experience in a university facilities department
Training and/or experience in quality improvement processes and techniques
Experience in managing a multi-million dollar budget
