A full-time position as a Farm Equipment Operator ls being offered at the University of Minnesota Southern Research and Outreach Center at Waseca, MN. This position is responsible to operate, adjust and maintain a variety of power farm equipment and waste treatment equipment.This work will include equipment set up, operation, and calibration.
Position is represented by Teamsters Bargaining Unit. Dues or Fair Share deductions will be made.
Hourly Salary Range: $18.05 - $21.10
Responsibilities: 60% - Operate a variety of equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: tillage, corn planters, grain drills, seeders, fertilizer applicators, hay bines, mowing machines, swathers, rakes, forage choppers, grinders, hay balers, hay loading and handling equipment, grain dryers, grain handling equipment, grain legs, sprayers, etc. Clean livestock barns of liquid and dry manure, load and spread manure, operate and maintain liquid manure agitators, set up liquid manure pipe and hose, calculate manure rates for application. Mixes chemicals according to instructions for spraying.
10% - Repair and maintenance of equipment to ensure efficiency of operation and safety. Make emergency field repairs to equipment. Maintain records for equipment maintained, grain harvest and /or preparation, etc
20% - During the week help as needed in the feed center, swine manure pit management, and swine and calf units. Herding and /or hauling animals. Assist in feed preparation as needed in the feed management facility
10% - Performs general maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, etc.) repair to facilities to include but not limited to: barns, shed, fencing, tree trimming, irrigation line, tile line, etc. Operates snow plows front end loaders and other snow removing equipment
The person in this position will assist other departments of the Southern Research and Outreach Center when necessary, and perform other duties as assigned. The person in this position will also have a positive attitude and good communication skills.

High school graduate/GED and 3 years of recent related farm equipment operator experience.
Position requires a pesticide applicators license, or the ability to obtain a pesticide applicators license within 2 months of hire.
Experience hauling animals, operating combines, sprayers and other specialized experience that relate to specific facility needs.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work. Work in all indoor, outdoor, and animal environments (noise, dust, and odors).
Must be able to walk or stand for the majority of a day; bend, kneel, carry, lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs or more.
Must be able to operate farm equipment such as tractor and loader, skid loader, truck & 5th wheel trailer and related equipment such as bedding chopper, manure spreaders, tillage, corn planters, grain drills, seeders, haybines, field forage choppers, hay balers, hay loading and handling equipment, sprayers, etc.
