The Division of Operations, Facilities Maintenance is need of an experienced through tradesperson to take on the role of a Lead Plumber position. The successful candidate will assist the Supervisor with day to day operations, as well as serve as acting supervisor and required. The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 7:00 to 4:00 PM. The Lead will be a well-trained, highly organized and professional who takes pride in his/her work and can perform various customer service duties as required throughout the day. The desired candidate is a professional with a flexible schedule available for on-call duty and weekend work as needed. The lead level performs the duties of a Senior Plumber and also as Lead will assists with a variety supervisory and administrative responsibilities. Must possess the ability to walk, stand, sit and perform repetitive duties. The candidate will report to the Plumbing Supervisor.
Duties of the Lead Plumber, include:
Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures and systems in accordance with District of Columbia Plumbing Code regulations.
Connects and disconnects air, gas, water, vacuum, steam, and waste disposal systems.
Assigns, inspects, and participates in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures and equipment as directed by a Supervisor.
Insures that work is performed according to District of Columbia Plumbing Code regulations and OSHA codes.
Estimates material requirements for Supervisor.
Services in the role of supervisor when the supervisor is in or on leave and performs
Shop Lead duties as required; including outage coverage.
Assist with preparation of weekly work schedules, prioritization and distribution of work including service calls and preventive maintenance. In the absence of supervisor will provide supervision formally.
Ensures materials and supplies are available for staff, such as tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
Provides quality assurance and adherence to safety regulations
Conducts inspections and provide recommendations
May serve as primary point of contact for contracts or projects.
Serves as departmental representative in meetings or projects
Inspects and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Ability to work flexible work schedule
Ability to interact with a diverse population to include students, faculty, staff, and external contractors and vendors.
Ability to conduct him or herself in a professional manner and provide excellent customer service to external and internal customers.
Ability to utilize and manage work order tickets using AiM.
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
