Full Time; Career Minimum Starting Salary: $31.06/hourly.

This position is responsible for general inspection and construction administration of small to large capital projects under the general supervision of the Campus Inspector. This position coordinates construction related activities and performs construction inspection and quality assurance duties at on and off campus construction sites for new and alteration projects, representing the University in determining and obtaining compliance with contract terms, specifications, approved plans, applicable state codes and campus standards. This position performs work independently with minimal direction, in consultation with PP&C project managers.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain an ICC inspector certification in California Building within one year of hire date.
Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
Must be able to perform field inspections; climb ladders, work in enclosed spaces, or in extremely noisy environments, the occasional moving of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodations.
Requires high school diploma with four (4) years -in building construction as a licensed California contractor, journey level carpenter, electrician, plumber or equivalent experience; including one (1) year as an inspector or superintendent of major construction work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Construction field experience including contract administration.
Experience in the construction industry at the inspection level; thorough knowledge of construction principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the California Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Codes; Title 24 Energy and Accessibility Codes; Cal Green and SWIPPS; including strong technical skills for the evaluation of building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, components and engineering issues.
Experience in interpreting and understanding plans, specifications, shop drawings, placement drawings, test reports, codes and regulations pertaining to construction, construction safety, and hazardous materials, in particular, inspection and construction administration.
Skill to recognize proper construction techniques and to evaluation of quality of workmanship. Ability to identify methods of improvement during construction and to recommend alternative approaches and solutions. Ability to problem-solve construction issues with contractor and project manager.
Ability to meet client and management expectations by consistently being punctual, reliable, and flexible. Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment and initiative.
