Electrician, Trades Specialist Lead II - WVU Beckley 06935
West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), a location of the West Virginia University system, invites applications for the position of Electrician -Trades Specialist Lead II. This position directs the work of a crew(s) of electricians, maintenance helpers, trades workers, and other assigned personnel while performing both installation of new construction and general maintenance of existing facilities utilizing journeyman level electrical skills.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Install, repair, and inspect electrical distribution equipment and wiring both inside and outside buildings to verify capacities.
Install and maintain circuit breakers, sub-station switchgear, and transformers.
Switch load to assure constant electrical power supply throughout WVU buildings and classrooms.
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot 23kv and 5kv underground power distribution circuits. Pulls high voltage cables through underground ducts and cable trays in steam tunnels. Splices and terminates high voltage cable using current state-of-the-art (3M) materials and methods.
Install, maintain, repair, and inspect wires and auxiliary equipment, such as fuses, insulators, and switches, to ascertain capacities and working conditions, utilizing thorough knowledge of types, sizes, and styles of equipment.
Install and maintain fire alarms, emergency lighting, emergency generator power transfer switches, and those items associated with life safety, as they pertain to the electrical field.
Install and maintain all control systems for motors, lights, heat, and air controls, participating with various crafts as required to properly troubleshoot and repair control systems.
Design routing plans, install and maintain new electrical conduit, tubing, wiremold, raceway, and associated accessories to accommodate electrical and telecommunications wiring. This duty requires pipe fitting ability.
Install and maintain existing and new lighting systems for both interior and exterior to buildings, including street lights and parking lot lighting.
Operate, service and maintain all grounds equipment, such as trucks, tractors, large seeders, riding mowers, snow removal, skid loaders, tilt bed trucks and steep slope mowing equipment.
Perform all general maintenance duties related to mechanical equipment systems; this is not limited to, but may include, routine maintenance and repairs on condensing and chilled water pumps, air handling units, cooling towers, fan coil units.
Function as a team leader, providing guidance to trade specialists and other support personnel as required. Follow procedures and make work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion, ensuring proper quality and quantity.
Work Hours : Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pay Grade: 15
Completion of vocational/technical training in a maintenance field of up to 18 months beyond high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Five (5) years as a full-time electrician
At least two (2) years of experience in repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration
Experience training and leading others
Electrical experience and on the job training
Basic knowledge of other trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electronics, and carpentry
Experience in coordination of construction, renovation, and maintenance projects
Valid driver's license
