Minimum Qualification Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture or architectural engineering. Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Three years of non-registered professional architectural work experience.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the theory and practice of architecture and architectural engineering; the principles of structural, electrical and mechanical engineering as applied to architectural design; building construction principles and practices; legal requirements of building, plumbing, electrical, fire and health codes as they pertain to building construction; engineering mathematics sufficient to perform structural calculations and to relate field notes to architectural plans; and the ability to design, detail and draw features which are pleasing and functional for all types of buildings, structures and installations; interpret design sketches and working drawings and visualize the character and quality of finish appropriate for the project; interpret building codes; prepare building specifications, cost and other estimates and quantities of materials; inspect work during construction and any alterations of the various structures for compliance with architectural requirements; prepare and evaluate related reports; maintain cooperative relationships with consultants, contractors, other operating and staff officials and the public.
License Requirement: 1) Current State of Hawaii registration a Professional Architect. Note: Applicants with a current out-of-state Professional Architect license must obtain the Hawaii license, prior to appointment.
