The George Mason University Facilities Department is currently seeking candidates for the position of Plumber on the Fairfax, Va., campus. Under supervision, the successful candidate will:
Perform journey-level steam fitting and plumbing maintenance;
Troubleshooting, repair, and/or renovation of buildings, facilities, and equipment in one or more of the following areas: underground piping systems, building piping fixtures, and building equipment and controls;
Inspect buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain needed repairs; and
Make recommendations and follow up to the supervisor.
The successful candidate will have knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:
Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions;
Knowledge of job codes, rules and regulations;
Working knowledge of installation and maintenance as they relate to building codes, rules and regulations; and
Working knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of water and steam systems and related equipment.
Journey-level skill in maintenance and repair procedures including maintenance, breakdown repair, and troubleshooting;
Construction, installation and fabrication techniques typical in trade;
Perform mathematical computation of trade; and
Problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
Strong demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and systems diagrams;
Ability to observe and practice working habits and maintain security of buildings and systems to effectively work individually or in teams, as well as with diverse groups;
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing;
Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment, subject to frequently changing priorities;
Ability to follow through and carry out assignments; and
Ability to understand and apply university and departmental policies and procedures.
A valid driver's license is required.
