The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct supervision and technical support to Facilities Services Housing Support's HVAC Shop in the daily function of the shop’s maintenance, upgrade and installation of building systems. These functions include but are not limited to providing guidance and daily support for the HVAC shop, including controls, auxiliary systems, and refrigeration equipment for all residence halls.
Additional duties include prioritizing work orders, planning daily and weekly work schedules, performing field inspections of completed work, personnel administration and assuming the duties of the Housing Support Manager during absences. This position will have daily contact with Housing and Housing Support departments and also requires a great deal of planning to ensure minimal impact on students and staff. This is a severe weather essential position.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Applicants must have the capability to provide oversight for project(s) and all related activities in that setting to include quality assurance and safety. Ability to coordinate and manage facilities, equipment, supplies and related resources as necessary for the project; and have the ability to monitor environmental risks. Ability to establish a set of tasks and activities associated with an intended outcome and timeline and capable of ensuring actions are performed and/or implemented to achieve the results of the project.

The applicant must have the capability to motivate and engage employees through effective communication. Ability to establish a culture of safety for employees and ensure that work processes are free from safety and health hazards, employees are properly trained and programs are in place to ensure safety. Ability to plan and monitor the use of expenditures to meet organizational objectives and compliance; ability to prepare budget documents and reports.
This position requires the ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions (e.g., public health) require the University to close.
Five years of experience in industrial and commercial HVAC preferred. HVAC certification and NC HVAC H1, H2, or H3 license. Three years supervisory experience preferred.
