HVACMAINTENANCEMECHANIC performs maintenance on heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment located on the University campus so that production continues efficiently. He performs scheduled preventive maintenance on installed equipment with general supervison from a lead worker and documents the work he completes. The mechanic must alternate working on-call to provide emergency maintenance and repair of HVAC systems after the regular work day.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Physical Plant is responsible for providing services relative to buildings and grounds maintenance, utilities,transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, and moving and hauling. In addition, the Physical Plant has expanding responsibilities that include providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University's mission, goals and objectives. The Physical Plant maintains, improves and expands all campus buildings, campus image and educational opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, event planning, motor pool and equipment maintenance/repair, motor fleet and housekeeping services to 40 academic buildings, 15 research buildings, 15 residence halls, 19 farm buildings and 21 support facilities. Moreover, the Shops Superintendent ensures provision of services associated with development, planning, corrective, predictive, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs for carpentry, electrical, garage and motor pool maintenance, housing maintenance, HVAC, locksmith, painting and plumbing. The mission and goals of this unit is to provide physical resources necessary to maintain and support the mission and goals of the University. Moreover, the Skilled Trades Department is responsible for repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of campus facilities and the HVAC Unit provides HVAC operational, maintenance and repair services consistent with building design criteria.

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s). Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Four years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of commercial/industrial air conditioning chillers, air handling units, chilled water distribution and control systems; including at least one year of journey work level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
