This Design Engineer is expected to work with licensed design professionals in a team environment to identify a scope of work, prepare design concepts with construction cost estimates, complete design with final construction documents (i.e. drawings and specifications), review design submissions, maintain Design Standards and provide technical support for operations. Reports to Campus Architect/ Director of Planning and Design.
Detailed Job Description
Perform engineering designs for campus projects under the direction of a licensed architect.
Review of external design submissions for campus projects.
Development of conceptual designs and RFPs for proposed projects.
Maintenance of established design standards to ensure the most current technologies and construction methods.
Assist with capital planning and project estimates.
Perform Construction/Project management.
Provide support for the maintenance and operation of campus systems and equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical)
5 years in engineering and design of building systems preferably for institutional clients.
Ability to collaborate across the university and achieve the best outcomes using internal/external resources available.
Technical knowledge of design and construction industries is required
Demonstrated ability and experience in developing contract drawings
Ability to design project details and specification requirements and to catalog standard details.
Ability to coordinate efforts of job team to ensure efficient project development
Familiarity with all aspects of construction documents including site/civil landscaping, mechanical/electrical/plumbing and structural scope.
Sketching capability to facilitate project team communication and communication with customers
AutoCad MEP, AutoCAD, most recent version
MS Word and Excel proficiency is required
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational skills; estimating and project scheduling software experience; building renovation design experience; working knowledge of NYS Uniform Construction Code, New York State Energy Conservation Code, ASHRAE 62.1, 62.2 and 92.1, National Electrical Code and other NFPA standards
