The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for three HVAC Trades Specialist I positions. These positions will be responsible for providing maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of various types of HV/AC/R equipment, as well as various construction and repair methods as required to maintain buildings and equipment.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Receive and obtain work orders and coordinate work schedules, goals and completion to customer in an efficient and timely manner.
Repair, rebuild, overhaul and maintain refrigeration and chiller systems such as screw chillers, centrifugal chillers, reciprocating chillers and steam absorption machines.
Utilize test equipment for proper diagnosis of failed mechanical systems. Will also use various hand tools and power tools.
Must have complete knowledge of refrigerant and reclaiming equipment.
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair air handling units, lab equipment, chilled water distribution, heating water distribution, mixing boxes, duct systems and all associated controls and safety devices.
Fabricate, maintain, repair and install components associated with compressor replacement and installation for cooling units up to several hundred tons capacity.
Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair cooling towers, condensers and associated controls to maintain proper temperature, capacity and flow.
Troubleshoot, repair and maintain any devices utilized for temperature control or ventilation.
Maintain and install building control systems using pneumatic and electrical controls.
May be required to perform general maintenance duties either in relation to normal journeyman responsibilities or assisting other trades.
Must be able to operate computers utilizing various software programs such as: Physical Plant maintenance management programs involving work orders and materials accountability, building support systems, and other systems as necessary.
May be required to perform duties in response to emergency situations in order to meet operational needs.
Operate state vehicles to travel to University buildings.
The Division of Facilities and Services encompasses seven units that are integral to the University's success. Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pay Grade: 13, WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
Positions Available: 3
Completion of vocational/technical training program in HV/AC/R of up to 18 months beyond high school or equivalent work experience
Experience in HV/AC/R and HVAC controls
At least two (2) years of experience with electrical, sheet metal, plumbing, carpentry, painting and general building maintenance preferred
Valid driver's license
West Virginia Department of Labor HVAC Technician License.
Type I, Type II and 410A or a Universal with a 410A – EPA requires this license for working on Freon containing equipment.
Physical demands include:
Stooping, walking, standing, crouching in very confined areas daily
Climbing ladders, scaffolds, platforms at various heights and levels daily
Moving, loading and carrying all necessary equipment
