TheAgResearch and Education Center at Milan is seeking a Senior Farm Crew Leader toprovide leadership on a daily basis to the farm crew at Milan. The position interactsfrequently with the Director and Research Associates to accomplish the missionof REC-Milan. The Senior Farm Crew Leader should have a combination ofeducation and work experience that will allow him/her to succeed in thisposition.
Responsibilitiesinclude overseeing maintenance and upkeep of facilities and equipment. Positionleads and supervises farm personnel in agricultural research operations. Thisincludes preparing work schedules and assigning tasks. Position also oversees600+ acres of crop research and production working with Ph.D. level researcherson various projects.
·Applicantmust be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently and as partof a team.
·Ableto prioritize tasks, plan ahead for future activities, anticipate potentialproblems and identify possible solutions.
·Mustbe willing and able to continuously update skills to stay on the forefront ofagronomic research, including technologies involving crops, pesticides,equipment, GIS systems, etc.
·Mustbe observant and spend time each week looking at entire center to identifyissues and problems, and various crop stages so that the next operations arebeing planned for.
·Mustbe able to prioritize multiple tasks, numerous demands, and many people inorder to accomplish work efficiently while maintaining quality and demandingexcellence in all that is done.
·Skillsneeded include welding, mechanical, repair and fabrication, carpentry,electrical, plumbing, equipment operation, equipment calibration, etc.
·Mustkeep running list of tasks for employees to accomplish on rainy days, slowtimes, etc.
·Mustmaintain work environment in a clean, safe manner.
·Mustkeep excellent records.
·Mustbe able to working in a fast-paced environment.
·Mustbe able to work with personnel with varying backgrounds and educationmaintaining a professional, pleasant and collegial attitude.
·Mustbe willing to work after hours, and weekends as necessary to get the job done.
·Willbe on-call 24/7 for emergencies as needed.
·Musthold or obtain in first 60 days of employment: 1) a Class B CDL License andhave ability and willingness to operate grain trucks over the road in a safeand efficient manner, 2) Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, and 3) passFederal background check that allows for work on a federal militaryinstallation.
