The Rockefeller University seeks a Mechanic 1 to join Plant Operations. Under general direction, the Mechanic I will perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems. Responsibilities include repairing and maintaining boilers, pipes, thermostats, air filters, pumps, waste and oil pressure indicators, blower fans, belts, and bearings, operating computerized heating and cooling equipment for large, complex systems at centralized and decentralized building plants, and troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reprogramming electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls of buildings by reading schematics and using computer energy management software. Will lead and/or instruct building maintenance workers in performance of routine maintenance of HVAC equipment, design and install new small to medium sized HVAC systems, perform data-entry related to preventative maintenance, and calculate the amount of Freon to be used in air conditioning systems.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Must have a minimum of three years of journey-level experience operating, maintaining, and repairing ventilating and air conditioning equipment or a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and universal CFC License. Must have knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of heating and air conditioning equipment in buildings and structures, the operating principles of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, computerized energy management software, and work safety practices related to HVAC work. Must have the ability to recognize and locate conditions which require repair and maintenance work, keep records, communicate effectively, regulate and control HVAC operations, complete written forms, read and interpret schematics, read and apply operating and repair instructions and contract provisions, explain technical information to others, learn and apply principles and practices of contract administration, work independently, and use a computer. Knowledge of Siemens and Auto-Matrix building management systems desirable.
