Position Description

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineer

Under minimum supervision constructs, installs, repairs, maintains and operates refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilating and auxiliary and related equipment. Will perform the same work on air compressors and vacuum pumps whether or not associated with the above equipment. Shift workers assigned to Building 600 acknowledge all Laboratory alarms in the control room and make appropriate notifications.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  •  Will be called upon to do shift worker assignments to check equipment on site and acknowledge all Laboratory alarms, or control room assignment to monitor equipment in the Central Chilled Water Facility. Monitor all alarms and make appropriate notifications.

 

Position Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 6 years total experience, composed of 4 years apprenticeship, plus 2 years experience or 6-8 years total experience composed of formal trade school, plus minimum 2 years experience or 8 years experience (no formal training)
  • Must have a strong background working on absorption, reciprocating and centrifugal equipment
  • Must possess EPA Universal Certification
  • Ability to demonstrate brazing techniques
  • Familiarity with reading blue prints and HVAC wiring schematics
  • An understanding of building management systems controls
  • Knowledge of cooling tower maintenance

Environmental, Health, and Safety Considerations

  • Requires the ability to work in a radiation facility

    Requires the ability to work outside or inside.

  • Requires the ability to routinely lift over 30-lbs.
  • Requires the ability to drive a government vehicle and have a valid NY Driver's License.
  • Requires the ability to climb ladders and access facility roofs.
  • Requires the ability to wear a respirator.
  • Requires the ability to work under extreme conditions: cold/heat.
  • Requires pre-placement physical.
