Job Requisition Number: 24815. Under the auspices of the College of Engineering Dean’s Office, Richmond Field Station Operations and Facilities Management is responsible for maintenance of the physical plant at the Richmond site. The stationary engineer is responsible for conducting routine inspections, maintenance and recordkeeping of various pieces of HVAC equipment and HVAC systems. HVAC systems include, but are not limited to: heaters, chillers, cooling towers, split AC systems, compressors, humidifiers/dehumidifiers, pumps, fans, drives, louvers, filters, heat exchangers, pressure reducing valves, control devices and thermostats.
80% General Duties: •Work with blueprints, drawings and/or oral instructions in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems supplying RFS research facilities and other building spaces in compliance with the Uniform Building Code and UC campus standards. •Operate computerized HVAC system. •Ensure maintenance and proper chemical treatment of cooling towers, boilers and chillers. •Perform work while conforming to RFS, Facilities Services and University of California’s policies and procedures, including Code of Conduct, Injury Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), Hazardous Materials Business Plan, Health and Safety manual, Facilities Emergency Plan, as well as other documents authorized by management that impact employee safety and conduct. Regularly attend safety, technical and general meetings. •Make labor and material estimates on various types of HVAC installation projects. Work from drawings, models, spec sheets and/or oral instructions and select necessary materials. •Provide guidance to other trades and general contractors working at the facility.
20% Administrative/Technical: •Keep up-to-date, accurate records of chiller performance, boiler maintenance, fire pump tests, and backup generator tests and maintenance. •Keep up-to-date, accurate maintenance records of refrigerant stock, leak checks and repairs.•Demonstrate a team-focused behavior, customer service and communication skills including the ability to exhibit a can-do approach while working with staff, contractors, vendors and other departments. Maintain good working relationships with clients, co-workers and staff. •Work safely and efficiently. •Have a record of reliability, good attendance, punctuality, and follow-through on jobs. •Track jobs to completion and prepare detailed reports of work done, time spent and materials used. •Complete paperwork in a neat and timely manner. •Have good written and verbal skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions. •Perform basic arithmetic calculations. •Have a good working knowledge of basic computer skills; ability to use, prepare detailed reports of work done, time spent and materials used through computerized work scheduler and preventative maintenance program. •Work during construction conditions that include use of hardhat, gloves, and/or protective equipment. •Work in small, tight, confined spaces. •Safe use of power and hand tools appropriate to a task. •Applies thorough knowledge of codes, trade-specific manuals and practices to determine how the equipment or system should perform. •Work on ladders up to 25 ft. tall. •Move up to 75 lbs safely. •Knowledge of recycling and hazardous waste streams. •Be available to be on call, on occasion, for after hour emergencies. •Be accessible and responsive via phone/email during work hours. •Report to work at 7:00AM. * Possess a valid, current California Driver’s License and clean driving record. Incumbent will be required to complete the following training courses:
**Complete a 40hr HAZWOPER training. **Complete Campus Certification for Fork Lift and Boom (High Lift) operation. **Complete Campus training and safety classes as needed. **Obtain Safety and Operation Certification for all Facility Equipment.
