Information Technology Services at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for a Data Center Specialist. The Data Center Specialist will be responsible for supporting ISU's data center infrastructure, and data center services. This position will assist with maintaining server cabling, location, criticality, and power documentation and data center metrics. The Data Center Specialist will collaborate with server administrators, network engineers, and subcontractors on projects ranging from server installations to large and complex systems related to data center facilities, assets, power, cooling, and security controls. The position will work closely with Facilities and Planning Management (FP&M) on design and installations. This role will maintain quality control, provide physical and technical support for all data center activities including equipment onboarding and offboarding, and assist with all operational activities and equipment audits.
The successful candidate will have effective verbal and written communication skills, strong knowledge of appropriate building codes, cabling standards and installation practices along with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and work under sub floors for installation and removal of cables.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 5 years.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, MIS, or IT-related degree.
Experience working with generators, HVAC, UPS
Experience working in a data center or operations environment
Experience physically installing servers, racks, data cabinets
Experience working with building codes, cabling standards and installation practices
