The Energy Engineer performs energy audits, retro-commissioning (RCx) studies, and other engineering analyses in support of Burton Energy Group’s Demand Side team, with a primary focus on performing site surveys and providing energy efficiency recommendations for Burton clients and driving top-line growth. This person will provide support in the field and to the Burton team on projects that require energy engineering and RCx expertise, while also promoting additional services for Burton clients. The Energy Engineer will identify and present energy related recommendations and processes to effectively deliver a high level of excellence and value to our clients.
Essential Duties/Primary Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for various engineering activities, from performing surveys of different facilities, energy audits, RCx surveys, generating technical reports, performing energy and financial analyses, and directly interfacing with Burton clients. The Energy Engineer will work closely with the Burton Demand Side team on a variety of energy-related projects and programs to maximize revenue. Responsibilities will include:
Conducting energy audits and other technical surveys for Burton clients throughout the country; must be able to travel on an as-needed basis
Performing energy savings calculations and implementation cost estimates primarily using in-house Excel spreadsheets; other programs, such as calculators developed specifically for utility-sponsored RCx programs, may be used as well
Writing detailed energy audit reports, including systems descriptions, energy balances, utility analysis, and measure write-ups, including scopes of work, for recommended energy conservation measures
Coordinating with Demand Side Team, Burton’s Incentive Program Manager, and utility program administrators on various utility-sponsored RCx programs
Performing additional energy analyses and assist with project implementation management/support for Burton clients as needed
Monitoring deadlines for projects to ensure successful implementation
The ideal candidate will have over five years of experience in performing energy audits and surveys of complex HVAC equipment and systems for facilities of end-use clients. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment (interacting with internal and external team members) with a focus on energy audits, RCx surveys, and delivery of other energy related initiatives. The ideal candidate should have strong technical ability and a wide knowledge of energy principles
Experience in analyzing complex systems including:
Building automation systems and controls sequences/strategies
Air-handling systems, including variable air volume, rooftop units, etc.
Lighting systems and controls
Co-generation and solar energy
Proven experience as an energy engineer or related position, with excellent organizational skills
Ability to develop, design, and deliver innovative energy services solutions
Experience with Utility incentive programs throughout the country
Prescriptive and custom project incentives
Excellent knowledge of MS Office and basic computer applications; working knowledge of program/project management software is also advantageous, and experience in eQUEST is a plus
Strong inter-personal skills with ability to communicate well with internal personnel and external clients
Professional Engineer, CEM, LEED AP, or other energy industry license or certification a plus
