Fabricates complex electro-mechanical laboratory equipment by design,modification, maintenance, repair of a wide variety of complex electrical and mechanical equipment in an experimental facilities. Perform HVAC repair and modification. Design and wire projects and have a working knowledge of electrical codes. Work in Mechanical Engineering Machine and support shop as needed. JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Provides personal and technical support to the Mechanical Engineering research and Undergraduate programs. Exercises general oversight of laboratory facilities, equipment instrumentation and supplies. Provides technical support for conducting the design, fabrication, modification, operation, calibration and repair of complex mechanical and electrical equipment of modern experimental facilities in support of major research and graduate programs and mechanical engineering undergraduate programs. This includes electrical controls and instrumentation. Other duties assigned by shop supervisor.
30% - Essential - Technical: Examines and interprets technical data and engineering drawings pertinent to the fabrication of complex mechanical and electrical parts used in the department of Mechanical Engineering Research projects and undergraduate laboratories. Provides technical consulting support for faculty and students. Design and conduct experimental projects including purchases of supplies. Helps faculty and staff in the fabrication (Welding, machining, plumbing, carpentry, and wiring) of Graduate and Undergraduate projects.
25% - Essential - Fabrication: Weld, Plumb, and possess Carpentry skills. Read and design Electrical and HVAC Blue Prints. Safely fabricate electrical/electronic circuits. Exercise a working knowledge of A.C. and D.C. voltage. Troubleshoot Electrical A.C and D.C. circuits.
5% - Essential - Other: Issues Keys and Key cards for the Mechanical Engineering Department. Coordinates necessary services from Facilities. Ensures departmental laboratories and shop areas are clean and safe. Coordinates FM&O services, and unique technical support by other service divisions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related electrical and mechanical field.
Journey-level work experience in a related field.
