Posting Summary: Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
The HVAC Assistant supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) installation and repair for the University academic facilities. The position assists HVAC Mechanics with HVAC repairs, cleans job sites, trains on more advanced installations and emergency repairs, and follows all customer service and safety protocols.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as well as a valid driver's license, with a positive points balance. Basic knowledge or experience with HVAC equipment operation and maintenance, and basic hand and diagnostic tools used in the field is essential. Basic experience with electrical or plumbing operation and maintenance is also highly preferred. Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of diverse backgrounds is also essential. Ability to perform heavy manual labor is required. Ability to work weekends/adjusted schedule on an as needed basis during emergencies and special events is also essential.
