This position is designed to provide routine maintenance and preventive maintenance of the boilers, chillers, all central plant equipment, the air conditioning and refrigeration equipment to provide a safe and healthful environment. The primary proficiency of this position is power plant operation. Other responsibilities include those of general maintenance (i.e., filter changing, maintenance and repair to wheel chairs/gurneys, electrical, plumbing, equipment maintenance and safety testing).
Minimum Education Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience Requirements
Five years experience in hospital power plant operation or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Valid Colorado driver's license
City and County of Denver Stationary Engineer Certificate.
Position Duties (Essential Functions)
Equipment – 60%
Regularly starts stops and adjusts or regulates equipment as necessary to properly condition the facility.
Observes meters and gauges, manipulates valves and machinery to keep readings within the specified requirements.
Demonstrates the ability to maintain, operate, and change parameters and messages on the HVAC computer system to maintain proper comfort conditions.
Performs preventive maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment by using established departmental procedures assuring minimized equipment failure.
Reads and interprets blue prints for installation of new equipment and repairs of existing equipment.
Performs routine maintenance, lubrication, cleaning of boilers and central plant equipment on a daily basis.
Anticipates maintenance needs before they become a problem or safety hazard.
Accurately computes heat loads and cooling requirements for projects.
Determines time and materials for new equipment installation and remodels.
Repairs and maintains valves, showers, toilets, water heaters and other plumbing fixtures, and opens clogged drains.
Repairs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
Inspection – 40%
Inspects and performs safety tests on electrical lighting, emergency generators, alarm systems, and medical equipment.
Maintains all required records and information for all regulatory agencies (i.e., JAHCO, NFPA, state and city health departments).
Regularly removes water samples and applies chemical tests to determine water make-up and properly applies chemicals as needed.
Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs constantly.
