About the Position: The Facilities Management Department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Plumber. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Plumber performs and assists with installing, maintaining, inspecting and repairing the plumbing infrastructure for the campus. Evaluates and corrects a wide variety of plumbing related equipment and system problems. Performs scheduled maintenance and diagnostic tasks designed to reduce failures and to predict unavoidable failures well in advance of their occurrence. Modifies and installs components within the existing plumbing infrastructure as required to meet the university's programmatic needs. Maintains City/Country certification to perform required testing of back-flow prevention devices. Completes testing and documents results as required. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumbers apprenticeship program. Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a base knowledge of the operation of building automation systems; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes.
Must be able to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems; perform applicable welding work; obtain necessary backflow prevention licenses; make rough sketches of plumbing installations; read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications; estimate materials and labor cost of standard plumbing maintenance and repair work; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; prepare standard reports; read and write at the level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Incumbents may be required to possess a California Drivers License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to maintain and operate.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Special Working Conditions: Ability to work in an asbestos environment and in confined spaces is required. Requires wearing of respirator gear. Will carry a Master Key.
