We are searching for a HVAC Mechanic to join our FMCS team. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Operations, you will be responsible for all operation, maintenance, and emergency support of the campus steam, chilled water, domestic water, storm water, sanitary sewage and associated infrastructure. You will have full authority for performance of these critical central utility systems including daily operations, preventive maintenance, and customer service. You will manage a team of union personnel working 24X7 including Lead Operating Engineers and Journeymen Skilled Trades. Due to the critical nature of the utility systems, you should be on-site during regular working hours, major projects and emergency response events.
Your core responsibilities include:
Directing central utility operations to ensure reliable, efficient and cost effective operations of the steam/condensate distribution and chiller plants/chilled water distribution systems
Handling staff, equipment, and facilities for successful 24/7 utility performance
Managing personnel who respond to, execute, and complete customer service requests and other requests for special work
Ensuring staff, contractors and vendors abide by program, contractual, and industrial standards/best practices, where required, which meet the requirements of the contract
Providing safe work environments for employees, visitors, and customers
Developing and recommending maintenance project priorities for equipment and operational strategies to improve operating efficiency
Identifying building mechanical problems impacting utility consumption
Establishing budgets and control expenses for staff, ongoing maintenance, repairs and projects. Reviews the various fiscal reports for accuracy and handling the budget for adherence to the annual program plan
Working with Utilities Analyst to evaluate utility billings and meter data. Recommending methods of cost containment and assists in development and management of the annual utilities operating budget. Setting benchmarks for usage, developing and implementing appropriate conservation measures
Reviewing utility systems operations, material conditions, and maintenance practices and provides advice to the appropriate Facilities personnel. Providing recommendations on other steps to develop a sound and efficient utility infrastructure. Providing strong strategic mentorship to the expansion of campus-wide utility systems
Providing input on engineering, design, construction and maintenance services for existing and new infrastructure. Maintaining and revising the various utility standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals and publications
Responding promptly by phone or in person as appropriate to emergency situations and therefore be available 24/7 or as required
Bachelor's degree – preferably in engineering, business, management or equivalent related field experience desired
Ten years of experience in utility infrastructure or facilities maintenance and operations preferred
Demonstrated experience handling the operation and maintenance of major infrastructure
Demonstrated experience handling effective preventative maintenance program
Supervisory experience working with unionized workforce
Ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization regarding a variety of meaningful issues.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, goals and objectives
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to maintain composure when taking care of difficult situations and/or individuals
Ability to work with deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions
Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records
Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks at a time
Ability to understand and follow strategic direction from divisional leadership
Able to travel across campus for meetings and utility related work
