DuPage Public Safety Communications (DU-COMM) located in DuPage County Illinois, seeks a highly qualified and motivated person to fill the open position of Technical Services Manager.
DuPage Public Safety Communications (DU-COMM) is seeking a Technical Services Manager. DU-COMM provides dispatch and radio services for forty-five (45) Fire/Police/EMS agencies primarily in DuPage County in the western suburbs of Chicago. DU-COMM processes over one (1) million phone calls each year, including over 200,000 9-1-1 calls, and over 550,000 calls for service for an estimated population of over 800,000. DU-COMM has a staff of 102 and employs 73 full-time 9-1-1 Telecommunicators. The FYE2017 budget is $14.7 million.
The Technical Services Manager works under the direction of the Deputy Director Support Services and is responsible for the overall management of the Technical Services Team including oversight of technological aspects of the facility and infrastructure.
Duties of the Technical Services Manager include direct supervision and leadership of the Technical Services Team, and oversight of technological aspects of the facility and infrastructure. The Technical Services Manager will also be responsible for proper project management, procurement, implementation, training, operation, and maintenance of agency systems. The position requires administrative tasks including reports, policy/procedure development, budget prep, and performance reviews of team members. This position serves as direct liaison for the agency with member departments regarding technical projects. Other duties include: Plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance of: radios, radio towers (receive and transmit sites) and systems, power generators and electrical systems, HVAC systems, fleet vehicles, telephone systems, computer systems, alarms, and mobile data terminals; ensure compliance with FCC, ICC, and other regulatory agencies; escalate problems to Deputy Director Support Services and communicate with DU-COMM staff and member agencies regarding equipment or service problems. Candidates should possess strong analytical, problem solving, mechanical aptitude, and communication skills as well as the ability to work one-on-one and in a group environment.
Candidates must have trade certification or degree in electronics/computer technology, radio, microwave, telephone or related field; or a minimum of two (2) years of experience in radio/microwave/telephone/computer technical position.
Candidates must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a management or supervisory position. Candidates should possess knowledge of radio systems and related public safety technology. Post-secondary degree in public safety, management, engineering, or related field highly desirable.
Knowledge of police and fire operations and experience with quality management techniques is desirable. FCC general class radio telephone license highly desirable.
The Technical Services Manager is required to be available for a 24-hour On Call 7 day rotation. See Technical Services Manager job description for minimum and preferred qualifications. Residency within a reasonable distance of the facility is desirable.
