SUMMARY Become part of the crew on a high speed passenger ferry with primary emphasis on engine room machinery monitoring, as well as maintenance and repair. Hiring for spring and summer 2016 excursion season and possibly full time.
The Deck Engineer is responsible for day to day preventative maintenance and minor repair of diesel engines, generators, plumbing systems, low and high voltage electrical systems, and other marine machinery found aboard a USCG certified passenger vessel. Also, this employee will be required to assist in the vessel operations, such as line handling or other tasks the vessel Captain deems appropriate for the Deck Engineer.
A good candidate will either have a USCG Third Engineers license or further advanced license, and/or be otherwise well qualified in maintenance and repair of the systems as mentioned. This job is day work and there is no lodging provided. Work days will be scheduled thoroughout a 7 day work week and the employee will be offered days off. The work days aboard the vessel will typically begin and end at the Boston or South Shore of Boston docking sites.
If you are applying from outside Massachusetts, you must have the ability and means to relocate to the Boston area independently. The company does not provide relocation allowance.
REQUIREMENTS Current MMA students will be considered if they have prior passenger vessel experience or other hands-on work experience in a similar field. Engine repair experience will be required. The Deck Engineer will report directly to the vessel Captain. Further guidance and support will be available from the shore side engineering division, as well as the vessel operations manager. Candidates need to be physically fit enough to climb ships ladders, lift approximately 50 lbs., and move around on an underway motor vessel at sea for lengthy periods of time. Also, this employee must maintain a pleasant, courteous attitude toward passengers and other crew, and present a neat and clean appearance. Please note that this is safety-sensitive position, and all candidate must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as participate in the company random screening program.
