Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 35, $11.52 per hour base
Duties/Responsibilities; Performs layout and participates in the following, construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repair of University plumbing, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, gas, steam system and other piping and utility infrastructure to insure the continued safe and reliable operation of systems and components. Performs welding and cutting activities using various types of welding technology and equipment, and on various metals in all positions, including but not limited to, plate and tubular metals of all types, mild steel piping used in high pressure steam distribution, cooling systems, heating water systems and other components as required, assists other departments as needed to insure completion of projects and the highest possible level of departmental and customer satisfaction, reads blueprints, orders materials, and performs all other activities related to cutting and welding operations.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must have, and maintain, a valid State of Tennessee Driver's License. The applicant shall be certified or have the ability, training and experience to become certified for specific operations. The applicant must be computer literate or able to learn the computer skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Must be able to weld metal objects, proficiently, as required to construct and maintain utility systems and their components. This includes all type metals including but not limited to; Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, Pipe, Tube, Plate, and Castings. Must be able to perform this function using various type welding technologies including but not limited to; Heli-arc, shielded metal-arc, plasma-arc, stick electrode and oxy-acetylene, must be literate and have the ability to generate reports, plan work schedules and order materials. Applicant must have the training and mechanical abilities needed to construct various assemblies and to properly rig for safely moving or lifting these assemblies or components as required. Applicant must be able to work with or without supervision and work well with others, must demonstrate good attendance habits, be dependable, and be willing to work flexible schedules as necessary; must become familiar with and observe all safety requirements, university work rules and state and federal regulations.
