Manager, Data Center Operations
This new role is responsible for managing the Data Center, a 24 x 7 operation, to ensure the proper planning, measuring and monitoring of ongoing operations and technology changes, collaboration with technical colleagues from all areas of ITS as well as Facilities staff and vendors, and the continual mentoring and development of staff. Responsible for the assessment of current processes and the development of recommendations and metrics to enhance Data Center operations. Handles escalated customer service issues. Actively involved in disaster recovery planning, drills and the annual offsite exercise to minimize Data Center exposure.
Key elements of this job include continuous improvement and change management, business continuity and compliance and management of Data Center staff, operations and technology. This role is responsible for the physical security and maintenance of the Boston College data center (4500 square feet) to include protection from adverse conditions (e.g. weather, HVAC, power outage, etc.). The Data Center includes multiple servers (virtual and physical), mainframe, tape library, network connectivity and disk storage as well as related compliance. The incumbent oversees a variety of software to include monitoring, backup, production job scheduling and problem ticketing software.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related discipline plus a minimum of five years of prior data center management experience in a virtualized environment to include a minimum of three years of prior supervisory experience. The salary range for this position is up to $104,000 and will be based upon the candidate's experience.

Deep understanding of Data Center technologies and best practices.
Experience managing all operational functions of a medium to large scale data center.
Knowledge of change management controls/processes.
Working knowledge of network protocols and equipment.
Strong time management skills to balance changing workloads in a complex and dynamic work environment.
Knowledge of hardware architecture.
Experience with driving efficient operations processes.
Demonstrated experience defining and managing team performance to measurable operational metrics.
Experience with VMware environment and Microsoft enterprise technologies.
Knowledge of Data Center electrical systems, including generators, transfer switches, PDUs (power distribution units), breaker panels and UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
Knowledge of Data Center cooling, fire suppression and air quality systems.
Experience with disaster recovery methodologies.
Working knowledge of backup systems such as IBM TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager). .
Working knowledge of production scheduling such as IWS (IBM Workload Scheduling) and related best practices.
Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards preferred.
