The Associate Director, Annual Capital Projects reports to the Director, Annual Capital Projects and is responsible for the oversight and successful completion of the annual portfolio of renovation projects ranging in total from $12-20M per year plus selected projects in the range of $1-5M. The Associate Director provides management and oversight for 7 professional employees and 6 hourly employees. The Associate Director assists the Director in overall departmental management and departmental leadership.
The position requires extensive knowledge of good building, construction and project management practices and processes. A broad understanding of building envelope systems, building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire alarm systems, building finishes and site utilities is required. The Associate Director will be responsible for coordinating the projects across the project management team as well as projects as assigned directly to him/her. The work requires strict adherence to University budgets and schedules as required due to the annual budget process and the academic calendar. Regular and consistent reporting on budgets and schedules is expected. The Associate Director will work collaboratively in the overall Facilities Management department with associates as well as with outside consultants and contractors.
This position requires a minimum of ten (10) years of recent supervisory and administrative experience with construction projects in an institutional setting. Proven successful management of project management personnel is required; experience within higher education is strongly preferred. Previous oversight of projects ranging in size from $10K to $10M is desired. A Bachelor’s Degree in building construction, architecture, planning, engineering or a related field is required. The successful individual must have the ability to thoroughly understand architectural drawings and have proficiency with software packages in project scheduling, estimating and reporting as well as MS Excel, MS Word, and other relevant databases is critical. A valid driver’s license is required.
