General Responsibilities include:
Director of Central Utility Plant 24/7 operations consisting of 12 employees, three (3) water tube boilers, (2) cogenerations units with heat recovery steam generators, three (3) chillers, and all ancillary equipment to meet the campus district energy needs.
Responsible for developing and managing the Plants Department Budget
Responsible for the oversite and management of underground utility distribution including: 4160V power, 12,470V power, 150 psi steam, and chilled water distribution.
Responsible for the oversite and management of power substations (Substation No.1, 2, and 3) and exterior distribution gear at building service locations.
Responsible Person in Charge for Title V Air Permit associated with campus emissions.
Responsible for bidding and directing of all service contract awards associated with Rowan’s comprehensive energy systems.
Responsible for procuring, managing and commodity delivery of Natural Gas and Electricity for all Rowan assets (Glassboro, SOM, and CMSRU). Historically, large accounts are Wholesale Block and Index while smaller accounts are Retail fixed price contracts. Continue to implement hedge strategy and trigger transactions accordingly.
Responsible to ensure Rowan’s Peak Load Contribution (aka PLC tag) is managed to minimize electricity costs.
Responsible for the management of the Energy Management Controls Shop (3 employees, SCADA system, Honeywell EBI, etc.) and direct collaboration with related HVAC trade shops.
Job requires working closely with departments to ensure energy waste is avoided and campus comfort is maintained.
Maintain campus energy system as-built documentation in AutoCAD. This includes site plans and one-line diagrams for power, steam, and chilled water.
Work closely with Division colleagues for the development of new construction and or renovations to support MEP system design.
Be available for occasional emergencies that may arise due to severe weather, equipment failure or system outages.
Maintain campus design standards, relating to energy management, for use in capital construction projects as well as renewal tasks to ensure uniformity and performance where possible.
Review and comment on hired design professional deliverables associated with MEP design tasks.
Continuously visit campus mechanical systems to ensure system operation is as intended. Report deficiencies via Rowan’s work order system and assist Rowan trades staff in resolving issues.
Ensure all design documentation is archived electronically.
Provide input to develop future capital projects.
Lead the development of engineered cost estimates related to energy related projects on an as needed basis.
Meet with campus staff and faculty as needed to develop a work plan and budget to meet their needs.
Develop and oversee the Energy Master Plan as well as the Master Infrastructure plan for each campus.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in similar work setting (Higher Education preferred).
Independent and self-motivated.
