Under the general direction of the Facilities Manager, the AC/Refrigeration Technician is responsible for those duties which contribute to the overall operation, maintenance and repair of all support systems and equipment with emphasis on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration throughout the Hospital complex and other entities.
The ideal candidate must be able to communicate well with other employees and show courtesy to patients, visitors and other staff. Must be able to adjust to a variety of changing duties and function effectively in stressful situations.
Ensures that HVAC equipment/systems are adjusted and maintained to meet maximum design criteria and specifications.
Prior to the onset of seasonal changes, inspects the systems for loose wires, broken lines, leaks, etc. and pre starts equipment/systems to assure proper working order.
Safety checks, test, and evaluates new equipment and records results or informs supervisor regarding operational problems.
Keeps various types of records which include preventative maintenance, work orders, etc.
Investigates and troubleshoots HVAC and refrigeration equipment/systems to determine cause of malfunctions and resolve.
Performs a variety of general maintenance and preventative maintenance as well as inspections, repair, servicing, and installation of equipment, following proper standards and policies as established by the department.
Operates all mechanical equipment in the boiler room area including the emergency generator and cooling tower.
Installs and repairs electrical and plumbing equipment/systems as directed.
Maintains established Health Center and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, environmental and infection control; complies with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
Available when on "call" (if applicable), either by phone or pager.
Prioritizes situations to determine urgency and calmly follows proper channels to take action.
High School Diploma or GED
Certification in Universal refrigeration which includes high, medium, and low pressure refrigeration's systems. Licensure must come from an EPA approved agency
Class E chauffer's license within 6 months of hire
CPI certified within 6 months of hire. BLS within 6 months of hire
Ability to use all types of tools associated with refrigeration and HVAC repairs, to include but not limited wo welding torches, reclaiming equipment, leak detectors, refrigeration gauges, various power tools.
Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, chillers, etc., as well as various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
Five years on-the-job training in health care setting or equivalent industrial commercial setting
