Under operational supervision of the VP, Facilities and Security and programming guidance from the General Manager of The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, conducts maintenance operations and repairs in guest rooms, suites, meeting spaces, kitchens, back of house and front of house areas. This role requires a very high level of independent judgment and decision making in non-routine matters.
Conduct regular maintenance audits throughout the facility to identify, oversee, and inspect items that are deferred maintenance.
Complete work orders for the maintenance and repair of HVAC, laundry machinery, kitchen equipment, general plumbing, and electrical systems.
Safely operate, maintain, and detect defects in equipment and make minor repairs or adjustments.
Perform maintenance and repair of carpet, wall coverings, furniture, painted surface, light bulbs, and any other cosmetic repairs needed.
Perform or supervise scheduled maintenance on equipment.
Check in with General Manager, Food and Beverage, Front Desk and Housekeeping on a regular basis, reporting on maintenance problems that could affect guests.
Prioritize tasks taking into account safety concerns, guest impact, and issues that impact The Hotel’s ability to serve the guest or patron.
Coordinate major failures or emergency malfunctions to Kirkwood Facilities.
Read and understand blueprints and schematics.
Train Hotel employees on basic hotel maintenance items.
Supervise students and provide feedback on performance, as required.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and college sponsored training.
Perform other related work duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Basic understand of commercial building maintenance.
Two year degree or 5 years technical or related work experience required.
Valid Iowa driver's license required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Knowledge of operating procedures of a hotel, large convention or other public use facility.
