Amec Foster Wheeler’s Phoenix, AZ office is seeking a senior level (over 7 years of applicable experience) Mechanical/HVAC Drafter/Designer candidate with advanced computer aided design (CAD) skills and meaningful experience in infrastructure HVAC and Plumbing system design to support the Infrastructure Branch Mechanical Group. Primary focus for project work will be to prepare construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new and/or retrofit buildings. The position may also support other specialty disciplines and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities •Support mechanical HVAC and Plumbing system drawing development, projects, and clients with accurate drafting and design •Develop schematics, P&ID’s, plan drawings, elevation views, section views, and installation details •Convey results and findings by means of oral discussions, graphic-based presentations and project documentation •Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general sketches, or written and verbal specifications from project team •Create exhibits and documents for presentations and reports •Work with project team to investigate and resolve problems with existing designs and make corrections to drawings as requested by the senior staff •Create and update database of design records for reference and utilization on future projects. •Adhere to discipline-specific CAD standards
Skills / Qualifications •High school graduate or equivalent required •Associate of Science (AS) degree in drafting/CAD technology or similar preferred •A minimum of 7 years of experience preparing design drawings (using Autodesk AutoCAD and REVIT) related to construction plan development, including plan, profile, and detail views •Mathematic skills, including basic understanding and use of geometry and trigonometry •Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing •Familiarity with Arizona and Local Government permitting codes related to utilities, HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing •Proficiency in MS Office •Ability to develop Bill of Materials •Proven ability to read, understand, and develop both 2D and 3D drawings •Must have HVAC and Plumbing system design/drafting experience •Must understand pipe and duct routing principles, space coordination requirements •Must have experience with REVIT and AutoCAD •Must have knowledge of required support concepts as well as seismic and thermal design criteria •Able to conduct field verification of designs prior to, during, and after construction •Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, equipment vendors, and installation contractors •Able to help select system equipment and components when needed •Occasional overnight multi-day travel required •Must pass drug test, fit-for-duty exam, background check and must have a valid Arizona drivers license
