The schedule for this position will be 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM Monday-Friday. Night (3rd Shift), Rotating/Variable, and Holiday shifts may be required as needed.
UW Medicine Consolidated Laundry is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine, including the award-winning University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center (the region's only Level I Trauma center, known for innovations and excellence in trauma care and its centers of emphasis: Trauma, Burn, Neurosciences, AIDS/STD CARER, and mentally and medically vulnerable populations), Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW School of Medicine and UW Physicians Network, and other regional health care facilities. The department effectively and efficiently manages linen resources and costs, while maintaining quality patient care and comfort.
UW Medicine Consolidated Laundry has an outstanding opportunity for a TEMPORARY/HOURLY MAINTENANCE MECHANIC 1 (Full-time, Day, Evening Shifts). Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 will assist journeyworkers in repairing, maintaining, and remodeling buildings, equipment, and facilities at UW Medicine Consolidated Laundry. The Maintenance Mechanic 1 may perform these duties independently.
Maintenance Mechanic 1 duties include:
Assist in maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of building, grounds, and utility distribution at UW Medicine Consolidated Laundry
Assist journey trades workers with carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, steam-fitting, mechanical/electrical work, refrigeration maintenance, and machinists trades
Help fabricate equipment and materials constructed in trades shops in accordance with project requirements
Operate power tools and equipment; operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies
Maintain washroom chemical delivery systems
Perform Preventive Maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors and laundry washers and dryers; change oil; change or clean filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts, and bearings to ensure proper operation
Clean and maintain boilers for inspection
Assist in shop office routines, including material storage and record-keeping
Clean up and maintain shop areas, work sites, and storage areas
Perform related duties as required

High school graduation or GED equivalent; OR, six month's full-time related vocational study or training; OR, six months' applicable work experience; AND, one year of full-time experience as a helper in building and equipment maintenance, construction, repair work, or equivalent. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements: The examination (including written, E & T and oral components) will consist of a scored evaluation of the applicant's experience in mechanical maintenance work; ability to perform demanding physical labor; knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair techniques; ability to perform general mechanical maintenance and repair of buildings, machinery and equipment.
Grade 4 Boiler Fireman license preferred.

Perform work of a semi-skilled nature in the maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment.
