Manager, Plumbing and Mechanical Department
He/She will manage the administrative and technical activities of the Plumbing and Mechanical departments to ensure efficient and effective operations, quality service and customer satisfaction. The Plumbing and Mechanical Manager will provide technical expertise on construction, maintenance, repair, operation and alteration of plumbing, mechanical, medical gas, and sprinkler/standpipe systems, and mechanical equipment for all MSK sites and properties
Manage the maintenance, repair, operation and alteration of MSK’s Plumbing Systems, Mechanical Systems, Medical Gas systems, Sprinkler/Standpipe systems, and Mechanical Equipment
Develop, maintain and execute global life-cycle management and preventative-maintenance programs to ensure compliance with manufactures procedures, NFPA, ASHE and ASHRAE standards on all plumbing and mechanical equipment.
Develop, manage and implement infrastructure replacement/upgrade projects for MSK equipment and utility systems and coordinate work with all trades involved. Develop projects and budgets soliciting prices from contractors and vendors on managed projects.
Manage, guide and direct the functions and activities of employees in the Plumbing and Plant Mechanic shops. Participate in hiring process and responsible for training, orienting, disciplining, providing on-going feedback and appraising performance.
Provide continual guidance and direction to encourage compliance with JCAHO standards and with other Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies. Recommend training requirements to keep all staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet organizational needs and objectives. Manage departmental human resources, development, time management, attendance, and discipline
Provide expertise, insight and ongoing feedback as part of the Design Team for all new construction projects as it relates to Plumbing, Fire Suppression, Medical Gas, Mechanical Equipment selection and related components
Maintain and update databases/utility drawings to ensure an accurate inventory and diagrams of the centers plumbing, medical gas, mechanical equipment inventory and fire suppression systems and related components.
Generate, maintain and present documentation for authorities having jurisdiction (JCAHO) on matters of compliance as they relate to Medical gases, Equipment Preventative Maintenance, Plumbing and Fire Suppression systems.
Provide in-field management and direction to engineers, contractors, and vendors as well as verify adequacy of utility systems.
Assist and coordinate construction-related shutdowns (Plumbing, Medical Gas, Fire Suppression) and system alterations with associated project teams.
Review contractor installations and workmanship to ensure compliance with contracted documents and MSK standards.
Effectively engage individuals at all levels of the organization, including outside contractors and vendors, is required.
Interpret and read blue prints, diagrams, sketches, operating and maintenance manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications is required.
Apply mathematical skills of advanced math (equations, geometry) in order to yield solutions to engineering deficiencies
NYC Master Plumbers License and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Facilities Management or Business Administration
NYC Fire Suppression Piping License preferred
ASSE 6020 Medical Gas Inspector preferred
Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager preferred
Fifteen (15) years of experience in maintenance and engineering of Plumbing, Sprinkler and Mechanical systems, with a minimum of five (5) years in healthcare environments with staff of 15 or more.
Knowledge of Plumbing Codes
Knowledge of Fire Suppression Codes
Knowledge of Medical Gas Systems
Ability to read, write and communicate in English
