This position is being recruited at the State banded branch/role description of a Facility Maintenance Supervisor, Journey, with a working title as a Plant Maintenance Supervisor. This position is required to perform general tasks and duties associated with being a supervisor. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Hiring personnel and addressing all personnel issues that arise within the shop, seeing to the day to day operations of the shop, Also needed will be the ability to use a computer using Microsoft word, excel, outlook, aim and internet explorer to create material take-off lists, complete purchase requisitions for needed materials.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
The Supervisor of the Student Activities Maintenance Shop leads all activities related to the operations and maintenance in Dean E. Smith Center, The Koury Natatorium and The Ernie Williamson Athletic Center. The Supervisor works with the senior leadership team in Athletics and Building Services to sustain a high performance service culture that promotes sound planning and excellent execution and leads departmental efforts to foster a safe, respectful and diverse work environment that values its people. The Supervisor will also work closely with university administrators in the schools and departments to ensure that facilities meet programmatic requirements and remain compliant. Requires a demonstrated commitment to customer service; a continuous quality improvement focus; sensitivity in working with diverse groups; responsive management skills with the ability to motivate staff and promote a safe and respectful environment, excellent communication skills, approachable, makes sound decisions and provides timely direction for assigned staff.
Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions require the University to close.
Candidates must be capable of performing managerial functions over multiple organizational units. This position must manage employees in a wide variety of trades groups, including but not limited to: Carpentry, Roofing, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, and some specialized areas that include swimming pools, asbestos/lead abatement, and contract employees. Candidates must be capable of exercising a high level of independent decision-making and responsibility. They are responsible for cross training, assignment of staff across heterogeneous service areas, and career development programs which will improve the university's ability to effectively respond to organizational needs. A minimum of (5) year's progressive experience in a higher education institution in an athletic setting, with recent experience in facility maintenance is desired. Experience with future planning and budget management; experience integrating current technologies into a facilities maintenance operations group. Additionally, experience in the review of various phases of building design in reference to the overall building systems/areas that are supported and maintained by the various trades as well as construction support in reference to conducting system operational testing, inspections, and commissioning, during and after new building construction with all aspects of building systems/areas that are supported and maintained by the various trades.
