This position is for a mid academic year start (January 2019).
The position for Assistant Professor/Instructor for Construction Science and Management is to support the teaching, scholarship, and service goals of the Department of Engineering Technology. The position will require teaching in a laboratory environment to teach students practical knowledge in construction techniques. Specific knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing technical areas is preferred.
60% of the work load is Teaching:
Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools. Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline. Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes. Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning.
30% of the work load is Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities:
Demonstrate a record of ongoing research, scholarship or creative activity appropriate to your academic discipline. Mentor 2-3 undergraduate research projects per year. Participate in departmental based research projects as necessary.
10% of the work load is Service:
Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry. Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
Required Education and Knowledge:
Faculty members in the rank of instructor must hold at least a masterâ™s degree approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as appropriate to the academic area they serve.
Tenure-track faculty members in the rank of assistant professor shall hold the earned doctorate or other terminal degree approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as appropriate to the academic area they serve.
