Posting Summary: Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We have multiple openings for HVAC Senior Mechanics in our Maintenance Zones, who support Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) installation and repair for the University facilities. The incumbent will provide technical expertise in the HVAC Department. The incumbent performs skilled repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems performing specialized, highly skilled tasks for preventive maintenance and/or repair work which require the use of specialized equipment, tools, and/or technologies, often operating independently at night or on weekend.
A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of seven years of HVAC experience is required. A Journeyman or higher HVAC license and valid Driver's license, with a positive points balance is also required. Considerable knowledge of all aspects of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems' operations, repair, maintenance, and installation and use of hand and diagnostic tools used in the field is essential. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose repair problems and to assign, inspect and lead the work of others is essential. Basic experience with electrical or plumbing operation and maintenance is also highly preferred. Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of diverse backgrounds is also essential. Commercial and industrial HVAC experience is strongly preferred.
