The position plays a key role in the orchestration of seamless and reliable daily facility operations for the Physical Sciences building portfolio, acting as an intermediary between the departments and campus operational units, primarily Facilities Management. The Manager is responsible for coordinating resources, expertise and services to ensure the delivery of operations needed to support a complex research operation. The Manager represents the interests of the various Departments within the Physical Sciences in addressing operational needs by working with the operations and maintenance providers to troubleshoot and problem-solve issues. The Manager assists faculty, staff and students during all phases of renovation, renewal and other construction activities by means of a holistic understanding of both the research activities and the capacities and constraints of the building systems. Additionally, the position works with other departments, such as Public Safety, Environmental Health & Safety and Computer & Information Systems to ensure compliance to University, local, state and federal policies and practices within all Physical Science Departmentsâ™ operation.
B.A. or B.S. degree in Engineering, or closely related field plus 7-10 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of research and teaching facilities and utilization requirements. Experience in laboratory planning, design and construction; sound working knowledge of laboratory safety and security issues (including HVAC and MEP systems), building codes, construction methods and scientific research operations.
Demonstrated experience monitoring, managing, and understanding capacities of central systems such as PCHW, exhaust, etc.
Demonstrated experience helping to establish and maintain unique operation / safety guidelines for a building like this including an LVMP, chemical storage and inventory control/management, and lab safety.
Experience/understanding of working in a customer service driven operation- including willingness to be available on weekends or evenings when/if necessary.
Understanding and skill set to manage budgets and tracking of expenses,
Excellent written and oral communication skills: stressing the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders to clearly communicate one's point, manage expectations and achieve desired end results.
Ability to advocate of behalf of the Departments within the Physical Sciences for facility renewal by working collaboratively with Facilities Management.
Computer expertise on a PC platform, with working knowledge/ ability of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office products and various database applications
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize complex and work processes in order to meet schedules and timelines.
Ability to use good judgment and provide exceptional leadership.
Ability to serve as liaison for the Departments within the Physical Sciences with the FM Partnership Program.
Ability to plan steps and carry out multi-phase projects requiring problem definition and modified techniques, to coordinate work with others, and to modify methods and procedures to solve a wide variety of problems.
Ability to develop and evaluate policies and procedures;
