Mechanical Engineer (1804032) – Wyandotte, MI
Where the Chemistry Happens
This role is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise for new chemical plants, major expansions, debottlenecking of existing plants and infrastructure facilities including conception, design, and execution phases of projects. You will also be responsible for providing specialized engineering services in the areas related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. As the primary HVAC mechanical engineer, you will collaborate with business partners and project managers and be responsible for designing, analyzing and testing the systems related to heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC) to meet the required specifications for old buildings as well as the newly constructed buildings. You will provide technical direction for mechanical designers (in-house and/or third-party engineering firm) during the engineering phase of the projects. Your participation in teams, internal committees and ad hoc assignments to represent the Mechanical discipline are key to success.

Formula for Success
Leveraging your strong educational background and work experience in a Mechanical Engineering capacity, you will identify Lean opportunities and support the execution of capital projects and continuous improvement efforts.
Your strong fundamental knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, specifically in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) will be a valued asset as you will champion project scope development and ensure basic engineering completeness while applying techniques that add value.
Utilizing your extensive customer focus, communication and presentation skills, you will lead the development of project technical packages that include HVAC equipment, rotating equipment, heat transfer, storage tank and other mechanical specifications of components in full compliance with applicable industry and BASF standards.
Successfully engaging across multiple business units across the site, you will partner with project managers, manufacturing representatives, engineering partners and other key technical personnel to complete mechanical scope phases of capital projects and continuous improvement efforts.
As a trusted role model, you will ensure all plant personnel are fully compliant with OSHA and BASF plant-specific safety procedures.
Demonstrating your expertise in mechanical engineering, you will evaluate existing HVAC systems and equipment, design specifications and operational environments, and implement new HVAC equipment.
