The Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Trades Specialist I. This position under the supervision of the Department Manager performs as a Journey level craftsperson with a variety of skills sets such as Electrical, Fire Alarm Maintenance and Telecommunications.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Working from blueprints and specifications and in conjunction with supervisor, architects, engineers, factory representatives, installs or provides for special equipment unique to each project.
Provides electrical power for signal circuits and equipment such as fire alarms, phones, computers, P.A. systems, intercoms, TV, satellite, audio visual.
Makes installation or provisions for equipment and controls of HVAC equipment, pumps, compressors Installs, maintains, repairs, inspects, electrical conduit, tubing, surface raceways and accessories, bussducts, and cable trays of all types, sizes, and styles.
Builds, installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and/or repairs motors, motor controls, motor control centers, and interfaces with all necessary external equipment such as fire alarms, computers, safety devices, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, programmable and digital controls or equipment
Installs, operates, inspects and repairs high voltage distribution equipment inside and outside the building.
Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs emergency power systems such as generators, transfer switches, battery backup (UPS) systems, emergency lighting, etc.
Utilizes truck-mounted lift bucket. Set-up systems, develop layouts, develop program and purchase components for fire alarm protection to support renovation projects in laboratories, large office complexes, access areas and classrooms in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Develop documentation and necessary record keeping as required by regulating authorities in regards to fire and life safety.
Functions as primary responder when an alert for potential fire or smoke alarm danger is indicated.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and document necessary record keeping as required by regulating authorities in regards to fire and life safety.
Evaluates problem (s), status of project(s), man hours to complete work assignments.
Install and modify on-premises telecommunications cabling, (including fiber optics) in accordance with industry/university standards and guidelines.
Builds installs and/or modify necessary equipment such as computers, safety devices, mechanical, programmable and digital controls for equipment.
Inspect, maintain and repair of designated life-safety and door access control and monitoring systems, parking control equipment and video cameras.
Troubleshoots, maintains, and/or repairs necessary equipment such as computers, safety devices, mechanical, programmable and digital controls for equipment. .
Operate a state vehicle in transportation of materials or when traveling to various locations in performance to assigned duties.
Pay Grade: 13 WVU provides competitive wages for its employees, and takes experience and related education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.
High School Diploma up to 18 months of education/training beyond high school or equivalent is essential to provide incumbent skills needed to execute assigned tasks efficiently and safely.
2 years experience in one or more in the following:
Fire Alarm Maintenance
Valid driver's license
Journeyman Level Electrician's License
Physical demand/effort/coordination in the following:
carrying over 50 lbs.
