Posting Summary: Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We are hiring for multiple Pipefitter/Steamfitters who support Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. The incumbent performs maintenance, new installation and trouble shooting in the field on high pressure heating system, steam, domestic chilled water, domestic hot water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, gas and building systems for piping equipment and distribution systems.
A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of four years of experience in piping installations is required. A valid driver's license, with a positive points balance is required. The ability to read, understand and follow blue prints, sketches and specifications is required. Advanced knowledge of pipefitting procedures and an understanding of piping distribution systems is essential. Ability to layout, assemble and install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, MTHW, heating, cooling, and industrial production and processing systems is also required. A valid Journeyman or higher Plumbing license and a CDL license are preferred. Ability to operate equipment including dump trucks, backhoe, sewer cleaning machine is also preferred.
While working around machinery, the Pipefitter/Steamfitter will be exposed to noise, odors, and fumes. They may be exposed to blood/bodily fluids due to stopped up commodes and they will work with ceiling pipes. The incumbent is required to stand on different surfaces depending on location of job being performed. Must be able to work in steam tunnels and electrical and water underground vaults.
