Estimates, plans, supervises and coordinates work projects and preventative maintenance schedules. Supervises, schedules, and assigns the work of the skilled tradespeople and outside contractors; monitors their work in order to assure proper staffing and quality standards. Inspects jobs, equipment and tools in order to assure compliance with codes, guidelines, University standards, and safety rules. Interviews, recommends for employment, trains, evaluates and disciplines the skilled tradespeople and student support staff. Verifies and approves requisitions; orders, controls and accounts for supplies and equipment in order to maintain the inventory record system. Inspects plans, prints, sketches and specifications for all jobs and provides technical assistance. Evaluates and tests new products, equipment and processes. Responds to questions, complaints and needs of all levels of University employees, students, and the public in order to provide technical and trade information and assistance. Audits and oversees vendor bills and charges, and returns unused materials and parts in order to assure proper payments and credits through voucher audits. Initiates and prepares special, periodic, fiscal, time study and labor reports; maintains records
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational, trade or business school with coursework in a skilled trade or Business Management; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, management and in one or more of the skilled trades areas including electrical, mechanical, automotive, carpentry, upholstery, and plumbing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require the following licenses: Elevator Contractor's License, Master Plumber License, Certified Mechanic License, Master Electrician License, or a Class S-1 Operators License. The ability to handle export controlled materials.
