The Senior Utilities Control Systems Technician, under general supervision, provides centralized coordination for the utilization of energy management control systems (EMS) in campus facilities, allowing the University to maximize its investment in building automation systems and reduce utility costs by optimizing building operations.
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Six years of experience in heating ventilation and air conditioning design or automated building operation control systems.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a valid Texas Class âœCâ Driverâ™s License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Active participation and completion of the Senior Utilities Control Systems Technician section of the TAMU Control Technician Training Program within 6 months.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions in English and communicate effectively.
Knowledge of DDC and pneumatic controls, calibration techniques, air balancing, indoor air quality requirements, and metering of energy use.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience in air and water balance of HVAC systems.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Energy Manager
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Capable of interpreting building plans and specifications.
Knowledge of control system process language.
Knowledge of pump curves and FAN laws.
Assists in and acts as a resource for the proper repair and replacement of mechanical/electrical sensors, and other control or metering devices. Maintains communication with remote metering and communication devices. This may require driving a university vehicle to various buildings on campus.
Takes a primary role in the operation of the Energy Management System in the areas operating platform, trending, scheduling, modular building controllers, work station operations, PPCL programming, and laboratory controls.
Assists Area Maintenance with investigating and resolving hot/cold mechanical HVAC complaints.
Gathers and analyzes information from mechanical and electrical HVAC systems needed to evaluate proper operation, such as air temperatures, air pressures, water temperature, water pressures, fan and motor RMP, Kwh, Kw, volts, amps, CTâ™s, PTâ™s, etc.
Assists in the management and storage of calibrating electronic/pneumatic meters and controls.
ssist in the operation of the Utilities commodities metering system.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods of time, and will frequently be required to lift or move heavy materials. Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper personal protective equipment, follows safety procedures outlined in Material Safety Data Sheets, and participates in safety training.
