Provide service and maintenance for all aspects of mechanical operations and heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment (especially large commercial and specialty systems) so as to support the University's educational mission.
Performs troubleshooting and repair of the following systems to maximize up time:
Commercial HVAC equipment including chillers, air-conditioners, heat pumps, ice machines, refrigeration, heating converters, boilers and furnaces etc.
Electrical power associated with HVAC including starters, fuses, circuit breakers, etc.
Control systems including pneumatic and electronic.
Chemical feed systems.
Other department-specific equipment (e.g. fountains, pools, etc.)
Performs HVAC systems inspections and manufacturer recommended preventive maintenance.
Subject to being on-call for emergency service after normal hours on rotating basis with other tradesmen in shop.
Assist in special events as required to ensure successful outcome

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to work safely in varied conditions including wet and cramped areas and in extreme heat and cold.
Working knowledge of the International Mechanical Code.
Knowledge of procedures for safe refrigerant and chemical handling.
HVAC & Refrigeration basic cycles and principles.
Commercial HVAC including chillers, low temperature, specialty (computer room and scientific support).
Steam and water heating fundamentals.
Electrical basics and controls systems.
Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot schematic diagrams
Working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control devices.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to work performed.
Ability to use the International Mechanical Code and perform work in accordance with IMC.
Ability to use tools, meters, gauges and equipment correctly and safely.
Exercise behavior in accordance with University and Facilities guidelines, policies, procedures, mission and shared values.
Display professional manner and appearance at all times.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems of varied types.
Communicate clearly and professionally to all necessary key interfaces information pertaining to quality completion of work.
Physically capable of working as mechanic including lifting heavy parts and work from ladders and hot environments.
Welding and/or soldering skills.
Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Technical training in mechanical work evidenced by obtaining or ability to obtain Journeyman's Mechanical License (typically 3 years Technical Trade School).
Hold Refrigerant Handling Certification (Universal preferred).
3 years of progressively responsible mechanical experience directly related to HVAC systems to include commercial HVAC service including chillers and refrigeration.
All Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel and are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisor
