This is an entry-level HVAC position. Responsibilities of this position include performance of a variety of skilled tasks in the HVAC trade. Work will be performed independently under the supervision of an HVAC supervisor and will be evaluated through effective and efficient equipment operation. The selected candidate will work individually or with other HVAC mechanics to perform preventive maintenance repairs on HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, heating systems, and ventilation systems and to change filter medium in campus-wide air handlers. Physical effort will be expended in the form of extensive walking, climbing, and lifting.
Normal work hours will be from 8:00am to 5:00pm; however, temporary adjustments to this routine schedule will be necessary during summer operation and scheduled events. Work schedules may be altered in cases of work that will have off-normal-hour scheduling with the possibility of emergency call-in.

Facilities Services is a unit in the Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 students and a staff of approximately 6,000. Facilities Services primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.
