The BL3 Laboratory Maintenance Manager is responsible for: coordinating building maintenance, renovation and repairs for Biohazard Safety Level 3 labs on TAMU campus; providing the Responsible Official/Biological Safety Office with the information needed to ensure compliance in BL3 labs; and developing and maintaining policies and procedures for operation, maintenance, renovation and repair of BL3 labs.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree in Construction Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of related experience in operations, maintenance, and repair with heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems including related experience in research or laboratory environments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Biological Safety as it applies to facility maintenance for level 2 and 3 laboratories.
Knowledge of building systems, fire and life safety codes, building codes.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematic diagrams, and other technical reference documents.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a State of Texas class âœCâ vehicle operatorâ™s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
Ability to respond to emergency call during off duty hours.
Ability to complete internal Biological Safety training within 45 days of employment.
Continued employment contingent on the successful completion of said training as determined by the Responsible Official / Biological Safety Officer and a favorable FBI Security Risk Assessment as required to enter Select Agent laboratories.
Ability to enter biosafety level -2 and -3 laboratories to perform assigned duties.
Ability to wear respiratory protection.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Four or more years of construction supervisory experience. Experience with operations, maintenance, and repair of biosafety level 2 and 3 containment facilities. One year experience managing projects with limited supervision.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of DDC & pneumatic HVAC controls, calibration techniques, and air balancing.
Knowledge of autoclave operations and maintenance.
Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Other Factors:
Current FBI SRA approval.
Coordinates building maintenance, renovation, and repairs of Biosafety Level 3 laboratories with UES or SSC to ensure their safe and compliant operation. Consults on new construction and renovation of BSL-3 labs and support spaces. Will be required to drive a University or other motor vehicle to perform this duty.
Oversees records relative to the operation, maintenance, renovation, and repair of BL3 laboratories.
Provides routine status reports of the mechanical operations of the BSL-3 laboratories reports to the Responsible Official / Biological Safety Officer to ensure their safe and compliant operation.
Develops and maintains policies and procedures for the operation, maintenance, renovation, and repair of BL3 laboratories.
Works effectively to implement corrective actions for non-compliance findings associated with building operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
