The Director of Facilities and Property Management (FPM) is responsible for supporting student success by maintaining and continually improving the University's 50 acre urban campus in downtown Portland. There are approximately 5 million square feet of University controlled facilities including office, housing, classroom, conferencing, and retail spaces.
This position is supported by and coordinates closely with Directors of Capital Planning and Construction, Campus Sustainability, Campus Planning and Design, and Environmental Health and Safety to ensure that University grounds, buildings and mechanical systems are well maintained, aesthetically pleasing, clean, functional and safe for employees, students and guests.
The Director leads an exceptionally talented team of over 70 full-time administrative staff, skilled trades people and managers and 60 student employees . This diverse group of individuals is passionate about providing the highest levels of quality craftsmanship, customer service and teamwork through sustainable practices and take pride in supporting the mission of the University through serving as stewards of university and state assets.
Fifteen years of experience managing teams and a Bachelor's degree, or ten years of experience managing teams and a Master's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of experience in a management role in property, facilities, or risk management.
Five years of experience managing or working alongside the operation of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate and inspire others and ensure that most employees are highly engaged with their work.
Five years of experience managing, analyzing and presenting budgets in excess of $500,000.
Experience and comfort with giving presentations to large groups of people and to senior management.
Excellent and effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite and high functioning abilities with Excel.
Successful completion of a background check.
Experience managing contracted facility maintenance or custodial services preferred.
Experience with facilities management software and scheduling programs preferred.
Experience with Oregon and Portland building code and title three of the Americans with Disabilities Act preferred.
Three years of experience managing employees represented by a union.
Three years of experience working in higher education.
Professional certifications such as P.E., EFP, CEFP, CPM and LEED AP.
