The FM Tech Mechanical Trades performs under the direction of the Facilities Operations Zone 8 Supervisor. 1.Tasks include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. 2.Responsible for performing routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings do not deteriorate. 3.Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair chiller electrical control circuits. 4.Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
1.High school diploma or GED equivalency and two years experience in the career tracks of electrical, plumbing and HVAC trades areas required. Experience in the trades areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. 2.Associates' degree preferred. 3.Three years' experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of physical plant facilities. 4.Strong working knowledge and experience in both the electrical and plumbing trades. 5. Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by checking blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs. 6. Knowledge and experience using electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair chiller electrical control circuits. 7.Proven track record in facilities. 8.Position requires current Universal Certification by the EPA 40 CFR part 82, Subpart F. 9.NC Electrical License or Journeyman card preferred. 10.Plumbing journeyman card preferred. 11.Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension). 12.Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications, however excellent communication skills are preferred. 13.Computer literate. Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs. 14.Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures. 15.Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants, and the entire campus community. 16.Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
