UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine and Airlift Northwest. In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children's University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children's). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.The primary role is to provide critical data center, monitoring, and other operational support to ensure the reliability of UW Medicine enterprise systems and data centers. This position provides logistical, security, and technical support for systems/networks in our data centers that are essential for effective and efficient environments that clinical systems depend on. The role also includes administrative responsibilities such as materiel, inventory, and fiscal management. Additionally, the role includes utilization and support for monitoring systems and infrastructure plus secure media destruction and break/fix support. This position will assist with the implementation of the UW Medicine IT Services strategic plan to ensure availability and functionality of enterprise computing resources.This position will work closely with groups and individuals from existing ITS teams to ensure viability of computing resources. The nature of the encounters will vary according to need which includes, but is not limited to, performance of routine operational procedures and providing front line support for enterprise monitoring systems in accordance with UW Medicine policies and standards.UW Medicine relies on enterprise wide technological solutions and electronic information to enable the quickest and most reliable health care for its customers. These systems must be available on a 24x7 basis in order to allow physicians and nursing staff access to vital patient information. System unavailability may result in severe degradation of patient safety or fiscal loss. Ensuring availability and security of all information is the position's highest priority.The incumbent will be required to work with managers and staff throughout UW Medicine; and perform complex system analysis and administration on a broad range of infrastructure including Windows and UNIX servers and network platforms. The incumbent must be able to work with minimal supervision.This position will be asked to contribute to strategic and tactical discussions, conduct research and recommend improvements for projects in support of the ITS and UW Medicine mission, and contribute to the execution of strategic plans.Responsibilities include:Perform Data Center Operations and Project Support (35%)Coordinate placement, installation, and maintenance/ troubleshooting of data systems within UW Medicine data centers according to industry and UWM standards.Coordinate and complete Break/Fix hardware replacement of components for servers, network and SAN equipment in any UWM data center.Install/de-install, troubleshoot/resolve network and other cabling for server, infrastructure component, or systems with a high degree of efficiency.Verify functionality of key infrastructure and remote access systems, and respond according to defined OLAs.Monitor systems hardware and operating systems performance using support applications, respond to problems by coordinating vendor work, and performing limited maintenance and repair of hardware under prescribed procedures.Ensure physical security and stability of UW Medicine's data centers by: reviewing and maintaining physical security policies and procedures that comply with HIPAA, industry standard best practices. Frequently evaluate infrastructure for other issues that would impact system viability.Coordinate and manage data center access including the badging system.Verify sign-in sheets, biometric scans for each data center, and manage access systems.Review and analyze data center camera (e.g. video logs) and compare against entry logs/tickets and outage reports.Provide data center operations support based on daily, monthly, and year-end checklists.Identify Infrastructure improvements, repairs, and process improvements for any and all data centers as assigned.Perform on-call duties as assigned to ensure appropriate coverage during and after the workday.Respond to data center alarms, and collaborate with DCOM team members and other teams to identify solutions/remediation for unplanned downtime, outages or disasters.Perform Inventory Management (20%)Maintain inventory of data center supplies, transportation of equipment to various data centers and data rooms supported by the team.Complete decommissioning and surplus of equipmentKeep data center equipment storage organized and inventoried.Assist other teams with Stores/spares management, including coordinating shipping and receiving with vendors and the loading docks.Coordinate/manage media destruction including effective tracking.Perform Monitoring Support (15%)Monitor and respond to environmental alarms generated from monitoring hardware and software tools that support HVAC, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Fire Alarms, Water, etc.Perform analysis and configuration of infrastructure monitoring settings. Ensure alerts and notifications are set up correctly with sufficient advance warning of impending issues, while minimizing false positives.Monitoring and fulfilling of Help Desk tickets for operational requests.Update status website (used to notify ITS data infrastructure personnel of physical infrastructure viability).Documentation (10%)Update Operations Procedure Manual (hardcopy and online) with updates to processes and procedures.Modify data base of systems, update system locations, POC information, etc.Create and maintain appropriate operational documentation.Assist with preparation of daily/monthly operations report.Creation and maintenance of daily operations processing task lists.Maintain daily/monthly and other operations reports generation.Enhance and maintain Operations Procedure Manual with updates to processes and procedures. Deploy, and update status website (used to pre-inform/screen Service Desk calls).Material and Fiscal Management (10%)ProcurementIdentify items required for data center or systems support and ready quotes as necessary.Coordinate with other teams to ensure equipment orders they request are ordered promptly and correctly, ensuring appropriate follow-up as needed.Coordinate with Loading Dock or DCOM Receiving/Break/Fix coordinator for receipt of equipment.Budget planning and reportingTrack maintenance contracts and ensure they are renegotiated prior to expiration, and that procurement for follow-on support for coming year is completed prior to end of fiscal year.Maintain Budget status and ensure manager has information available to make correct fiscal decisions for the team.Other Duties (10%)Monitor overall viability of all UW Medicine data centers and initiate incident notification and downtime procedures. Escalate issue resolution with DCOM team members or other ITS teams.Assist with disaster recovery planning and implementation in coordination with data centers, and ITS teams relative to Ops Center involvement. Actively promote and comply with ITS software, hardware and policy standards. Ensure that procedures are followed to ensure the security and integrity of data and software.Become Subject Matter Expert (SME) of team application(s), tool(s), or process(es). Provide assistance to other team members that fall within identified SME focal area(s).What you'll bring to the table:One year of experience as a Computer Maintenance Technician III or Lead OR six years of experience as a computer maintenance technician OR equivalent education/experience.Additional Department Requirements - The experience noted above must include:Two years demonstrated experience operating and supporting Unix/Linux, Windows or other operating systems (1+ year if already a CMT III).Progressive experience in supporting complex distributed network and technical infrastructure components in a data center production environment.Three years operations experience supporting environments with medium to large systems in a data center production environment (1+ year if already a CMT III).Proficiency using systems monitoring in a diverse computing environment, preferably with SNMP, BMS or other software tools such as HP SIM.Experience performing basic systems operations support, with a minimum of one year supporting System Administrators.Demonstrated knowledge of and 2+ years' experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience) with the following (1+ year if already a CMT III): Hardware: Network switches, routers, firewalls, KVM/IP (configuration/operational support).Hardware: Copper and fiber network cabling (including troubleshooting), cable management, server/peripheral support (break/fix).Ideally, you'll also have:An Associate degree or greater in Computer Science, or a related field is required. Equivalent work experience may substitute for educational requirements.
