The Planning Specialist 3 acts as a technical lead in planning, organizing space development, programming, and funding of the School of Medicine's research facilities enterprise. Additionally, the Planning Specialist 3 is required to represent the School of Medicine in meetings with high level leaders both at the UC Davis Health Sacramento campus and the Davis campus, including Deans, Vice Chancellors, Directors and others to further the research mission of the University.REQUIRED-Ability to be the technical specialist, advisor and consultant on building space planning, programming, funding and utilization, to senior School of Medicine administrative officers and committees, with responsibility for assembling and evaluating information and preparing reports with respect to new and revised concepts of building space allocation standards and utilization, for School of Medicine application. -Specific knowledge and ability in space needs assessment, space program development, and facility master planning in an academic research setting. -Ability to develop and apply standards appropriate to facility use and functional programmatic objective with an emphasis in research facilities and activities. -Complete understanding of basic, translational and clinical research including the identification of facilities issues relating to efficient operation.-Knowledge and experience in working with market research and its relation to strategic academic research planning.-Knowledge and ability to apply research funding forecasting methodologies and techniques.-Knowledge of major research trends and issues that affect basic, translational and clinical research programs.-Knowledge of research focuses and activities of all of the School of Medicine's basic and clinical departments, formalized center and organized research units.-Ability to independently perform program evaluation studies and financial feasibility analyses.-Demonstrated experience in writing clear and concise documents for high-level administrative reviewPREFERRED-Knowledge of and the ability to apply analytical methodologies and techniques associated with program planning, development and implementation.-Leadership skills to lead project committees and manage large and complex professional teams.-Working knowledge of building codes and regulatory requirements for basic, translational and clinical research facilities.-Ability to balance multiple competing priorities and deadlines.-Financial skills to prepare, monitor and manage detailed project budgets, evaluate independent cost estimates and review payment requests.-Ability to read architectural floor plans and construction documents and understand and interpret mechanical, electrical and plumbing requirements related to basic, translational and clinical research facilities.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
