Under the supervision of the Engineer-in Charge, Chief Operating Engineer and/or Facilities Management, the Chief Operating Engineer II has charge of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems throughout the University campus; Supervises the operation, adjustment, maintenance, and repair to varied types of motors, compressors, pumps, blowers, combustion controls, HVAC controls, and other equipment related to the HVAC operation; and performs additional duties as required. Operating Engineers may be exposed to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Essential job functions include the ability to walk long distances both indoors and outside; standing for long periods; the ability to climb stairs, bend and stoop; lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds; and driving.
Qualifications: Four (4) years of experience in work involving the operation, maintenance, and emergency repair of power and heating plants and auxiliary equipment, one (1) year of which shall have been in a lead worker capacity; possession of an Operating Engineers License (Red Seal Minimum) issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development; and a driver’s license valid in New Jersey is required. Experience in a university/school setting is preferred.
This is a provisional appointment. The selected candidate must successfully complete an exam administered by the State of New Jersey Civil Service Commission in order to be eligible for a regular appointment.
